Socio-economic and agronomic aspects of the biofuel production have been analysed. Alternative cultivars were grouped according to their suitability for production of bioethanol, biodiesel, or biogas. Engagement of the local population in green biomass production and processing it for biofuel may help India to solve its food, energy, environment and social problems.В статье дана аналитическая оценка проблем, связанных с производством биотоплива, определены вероятные пути развития этой отрасли, выделены непродовольственные культуры для производства биоэтанола, биодизеля и биогаза.
