This article gives overview of tomato production in the European Union. Due to its chemical properties, tomato is one of the most popular cultures in these countries. But the mains producers are Italy and Spain. Tomato is grown for processing and fresh consumption in these countries. The article analyzes the current state of production of tomatoes, identifies key factors that have a direct impact on its production. The position of the countries on the world market is also studied. Their experience can be used in The Russian Federation.</abstract><trans-abstract xml:lang="ru"><p>Мировое производство томатов составляет около 1590 млн тонн. В статье рассматривается производство томатов в Европейском Союзе. Благодаря своим химическим свойствам томат является одним из наиболее популярных культур в ЕС. Его основное производство сосредоточено в двух странах: Италии и Испании, где томат выращивается для переработки и потребления в свежем виде. В статье анализируется текущее состояние производства помидоров, определяются ключевые факторы, которые оказывают на него непосредственное влияние. Изучаются также позиции стран на мировом рынке.
